For those of you who are somehow oblivious to what LOOT is, it’s a gaming platform/store. You can find several games on their website where you can either launch them or download them onto your system. You can even download their launcher and run your games through the launcher.
It may seem like it’s “loot” as in the drops found in games. For example, in FPS games, when you kill someone, they drop their items, and that’s considered “loot”. But we can assure you that’s not the case here. LOOT mentioned in this article is a game launcher, and we’ll be discussing a problem faced on the launcher. The two games are “Skyrim and Skyrim SE”. Oftentimes, LOOT won’t detect this game, and players find it quite troublesome.
WHAT CAUSES IS THE LOOT NOT DETECTING IN SKYRIM & SKYRIM SE ISSUE?
There have been many reports about this issue from players across the world. There are many reasons that cause this issue, the most common of which are mentioned below;
- This issue may ensue if you haven’t launched the game through Steam first.
- It may also happen if you aren’t running LOOT from MO2.
- If your LOOT is unable to find the game-files in the destination that it is searching it in, this issue may persist.
HOW TO RESOLVE THE LOOT NOT DETECTING IN SKYRIM & SKYRIM SE ISSUE?
Do you encounter this issue with Skyrim and Skyrim SE? Well, we have the solution and it is simple! But first, you should perform these steps to troubleshoot the issue, to resolve it;
- Exit from Steam.
- Reboot your computer.
- Open Steam again.
- Right-click on the game and choose Properties.
- Then, go over to Local.
- Verify the game-files by clicking on the Verify option.
- Attempt to open LOOT from MO2.

#1 – LAUNCH THE GAME FROM STEAM:
If your LOOT is not detecting in Skyrim, the foremost thing that you should do is launch the game from Steam. This registers the game with your Steam account and authenticates it. The reason for this is to ensure that there are no third-party applications, such as cracks, associated with the game. As soon as you launch the game from Steam, just wait for the menu to open before you close the game. This will authenticate all the game-files that LOOT needs to detect.
#2 – RUN LOOT AND STEAM AS ADMINISTRATOR:
If this does not resolve the issue, your game may not have all the permissions to access LOOT. Often, this happens when both Skyrim and Steam are in the Program(x86) folder on your computer. As a result, LOOT will be unable to access these files due to certain restrictions. To resolve this, just right-click on both the LOOT and Steam icons, and choose the Run as Administrator option. If that does not resolve the issue, you may want to move Steam out of the Program(x86) folder.
#3 – CHANGE THE DESTINATION FOR SKYRIM:
If none of the above-mentioned solutions seem to work, you should change the destination for Skyrim to another place on your computer. This will resolve the issue! To do this;
- Head over to this destination on your computer; C:\Users\YourUsername\AppData\Local\LOOT.
- Open to settings.yaml file with a text-editor application, such as Notepad++.
- Find “type: Skyrim” and in the “path:” section, replace with the destination that Skyrim is installed in.
